Baltic Lutheran bishops call for unity among Lutherans and spiritual renewal (0)
The leaders of the Lutheran Churches of Baltic countries met in Tallinn on the 3rd and 4th of November, 2009 to strengthen the unity of the Lutheran churches in the Baltic countries and to pray for the fellowship among Christians of the whole world. Recognizing that the ties between Christian communities in many places are challenged in our time, seven bishops of Evangelical Lutheran Churches of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania signed a joint declaration calling Lutherans for unity and spiritual renewal. |

A Day of Celebration in the Sundayschool Department of ELCL (0)
The month of January was specially important for the Sundayschool branch of the ELCL. More than 200 guests attended the meeting and the final presentation of the competition which involved different projects under the title "My birthday gift for Jesus". Most of them were accompanied by parents and Sundayschool teachers. Practically all the participants in the competition came who could afford the expenses. |

Latvian Missionaries in Uganda (2)
On 13th January 2009, a group of Latvian Christian missionaries left for Africa where it is planned to run a conference for 250 pastors and leaders of congregations from neighbouring countries, spend two weeks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and a week in Kampala, the capital of Uganda, helping the local people. |

Christmas Mystery „Greetings, O Favoured One” at Christian Youth Centre (1)
It was enough with one YES for Love to enter the world. With one YES the world was redeemed. Thanks to one word and obedience the door to heaven is open for us. Through one word, we go on. Through God’s Mother God addresses us too: „Greetings to you, the redeemed one!”
There is nothing else left for us but follow her example and say ‘Yes!’

On November 18, in honour of the 90th anniversary since the proclamation of independence of the Republic of Latvia, a very special music event took place in the Riga Cathedral: a 6-hour-long Latvian organ music marathon concert. |

President Valdis Zatlers visits Lutherans of Daugavpils (0)
At the end of August, for the first time during his presidency, the president of Latvia Valdis Zatlers went on a visit to Daugavpils where he visited churches of all denominations. The president also visited Daugavpils Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral of Martin Luther and met with the bishop of the diocese of Daugavpils Einars Alpe.
